The Bhaktapur Durbar Square
The main centre of attraction for the tourists of both home & abroad, located at Sukul Dhoka features the 55-window palace of King Bhupatendra Malla, which is said to had 99-courtyards, Taleju Mandir, Bhaktapur Museum, numerous spectacular temples, artifacts, arts & architecture, sculptures, statue of King Bhupatendra Malla, a large bell, etc. Bhaktapur- literally known as " DEVOTEE'S PLACE" is also renouned for it's woodcrafts ( the Peacock window being world famous), mud artifacts, metal works, etc. Bhaktapur can be claimed prosperous during the Mall reign on the basis of the fact of these spectacular monuments & rich Newar culture which prevail till date. Bhaktapur Durbar Square has been enlisted in World Heritage Site.
The 5-storey Temple
Dedicated to Lord Lakshminarayan, The Nyatapola Temple is situated a little below Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Recently celebrated its 3rd century birthday was not destroyed during 1990 BS earthquake which virtually demolished the whole valley. Said to be built by the architects of the neighbouring states, it was built to tally the then most prosperous adjoining state Lalitpur. Full of arts, crafts, architecture & gigantic height, it lies just on the right side to the Bhairab temple- a worthseeing monument!
